  1. I am encoding private DV stuff and would like to author it as SVCD with one menu, where I can choose from out of 9 small movies, where some of those are divided in chapters for better navigation. While the whole thing works when I make a VCD, it seems to be impossible with SVCD. The chapter navigation only works for the first movie which has chapters (prev/next/number). When I try to navigate to a chapter of the others, the player always jumps to the corresponding chapter of the first movie with chapters.
The only solution I found, was to drop PBC; then I can navigate through each of the movies. But as a consequence the still menu cannot be used.

My standalone DVD-Player is a Yamaha S510 and I use tmpgenc 2.56... for encoding (2376 kbps cbr), VCDEasy 1.1.2 for authoring and still menu creation and Fireburner 2.08 for burning. I have tried different settings in tmpgenc (with/without bitstream closed GOP) and also encoded with bbMpeg. The result was always the same.

So my question is, whether this is an intended feature of SVCDs ( would make sense because an SVCD can only hold about 30 minutes and it can be assumed that there is only one movie with chapters) or whether there is something wrong with my DVD-player or my authoring.

  2. The feature set (for authoring) between VCD and SVCD are near identical. Meaning, that you can definitely use entrypoints on other tracks on SVCD as well.

This may be an authoring error (unlikely if you can do the same thing with VCD). It is likely to be a player specific anomaly...
