I have 256mb memory and a 1.2 ghz thunderbird processor will incresing my memory to 2 512mb chips (over 1gig memory) increase my conversion time from avi 2 vcd ?
If so by how much?
Thankx in advance

if you are talking about improving or reducing your conversion times, more RAM will not (significantly) reduce your conversion times. encoding is primarily a function of the processor. but if your machine is low on RAM to begin with, and there are other applications running in the background, increasing RAM will reduce paging, providing less "interruptions" in the encoding process and effectively reduce the encoding time.
in your case, going to 512mb of RAM might reduce your encoding times, but only a teeny weeny bit (minutes? seconds?) since you are already smokin' at a 1.2ghz processor speed. going to 1gb RAM is overkill for encoding, but will surely help if you are doing a lot of video editing. -
from the experiance i have had, i've found that memory may make things like games run faster, but something like encoding is more processor intensive, so no, u prol won't see that much improvement. but i'm not saying you won't c any at all....
