    What is the best software to rip from a dvd to mpeg. I want to be able to rip just specific chapters to mpeg2. Is there any software that can do that? I used smartripper, but it only rips the files off the dvd and they are still in vob format. Also, are there any dvd authoring software programs that can read the vob files, or do they all need to be in mpeg format.

    you can accually import vob files into impression pro -- and even drop them on the movie line and it reconizes them and even you can preview playback ... but after that it doesnt get much father ..

    you can always use a vob to mpeg2 straight transcoder (doesnt re-encode them) and then use the mpeg file
