  1. OK, I tried posting on this topic in Newbie Conversion, but I think my subject was dumb. I didn't get many replies. Here's the deal: I am working with subtitled AVI files (anime series not available in US) which I am encoding with TMPGEnc and burning to VCD. The frame size of the AVIs is 512 x 384. It seems that no matter what video arrange method or aspect ratio I use, the image will not fit on my TV vertically. So I wind up being unable to read subtitles at the top and/or bottom of the screen. Is this something I can fix with TMPGEnc? or VirtualDub? or FitCD? or SOMETHING? And, if so, how?

    Adjust your TV perhaps.

In TMPGenc, you need to select Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio for the Video Arrange Method. This will fit the entire video within the VCD resolution (NTSC or PAL). If it doesn't fit after doing this, something is wrong (or out of adjustment) on your TV or player. Once your disc is in VCD spec, it's up to the player and TV to display it correctly.

No, your TV just has a large OVERSCAN area.

    Select Advanced/Video arrange method

    = Center ( custom size )

For VCD take 5-10% of both resolutions ie
    5% = 335 , 228
    10% = 320, 218

Anything more than 10% and get a new TV... seriously you are loosing way too much.

That should basicly place larger even black bars around your image to shrink it down. On a more mordern set you may see this on the edges of the image, but at least you should be able to get your subtitles on your current set.
