  1. Hello,

Hopefully someone can give me some help, I am looking for a new DVD player. My original DVD player has shit the bed after 2 years! What I had was a PIONEER 343 which played everything including VCD's at 23.97 FPS. Now I need a new DVD player and I want it to be able to play VCD's at 29 and 23.97 FPS and I want a brand other than Pioneer. I can't seem to find one on this site other than a few. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you have against pioneers? They play almost every standard compliant disk and a few non-compliant ones too? Smooth PAL -> NTSC and NTSC-> PAL conversion. Units were built very well. Video quality on BOTH DVD and (s)VCD's were tops too.

  5. Thanks VCD4ever,

I will pick one up any try it with my VCD movie's to see if there is any probs with my CD's.

As for the Pioneer, it was a great player but they don't sell Poineers anywhere around my house like at Bestbuy, Circuit City, or Tweeter. So I need a different player.

  6. Any NTSC DVD player that plays VCD should be able to handle 23.976 fps and 29.97 fps since those are offical NTSC VCD specs. If you're in the market for a new DVD player check out some of the Panasonic players. I have both the progressive RP62 model and the non progressive RV32 and they're both excellent. They only thing is they don't play SVCD's without doing the header trick, which isn't too big a deal to me.

  7. Daewoo 5800, plays anything, can have the macrovison diabled with a easy bios upgrade from a CD-R, plays VCD's and SVCD's all the way up to 7000 Bitrate, pioneer or Panasonic will not do that. and the best thing $89 at Sams club.

  8. Not many DVD players due play VCD's or SVCD's at 23.9 FPS. I have tried many different DVD Players with no luck. The ones I've tried have been JCV, APEX, Sony, and Toshiba without luck. I do know Pioneer works well. I guess I'll start making all my movies at 29FPS but most of the movies I get are in a 23FPS format so that is why I create 23FPS VCD's.

I've tried the header trick for my RV32 with no success. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Can someone give me a little help. The video & sound don't sync.

    TIA

The impression I've gotten is that most North American DVD players that support VCD work with 23.97fps, but that European DVD players (which commonly support NTSC as well as PAL) often don't.
