When i try to play an mpg file on windows media player, i get a message saying "wmplayer.exe has generated errors and will be closed..." waht should i do? do i need to download any plugins\codecs? i played an mpg a couple of weeks ago, but now when i try to play that same mpg, i get the error message!

Is it an mpeg1 or mpeg2? if it's mpeg2 you will need an mpeg2 codec.
Like when you have a DVD player like windvd or powerdvd. There is one in the tool section tooMay the force be with you. -
its an mpeg1. i don't know whats wrong, are there any other good players that i should try?

I had the same problem in Win 2000 -
Try reinstalling Directx 8.1 - it worked for me!
