  1. As a Newbie to all of this I was just wondering if any of you more experienced techies have checked out this DVD COPY PLUS 4.2 from 321 Earth Studios. They make their software program sound very easy (of course they will !!!) but I was wondering if anyone here has checked it out?.... I am sure I could find the same info on this site. Can this software program deal with all the problems I always read about on these boards......Thanks.......

There has been some discussion about this program and similar ones on several (s)vcd forums. It is literally a collection of freeware software programs and guides on how to use them. Even some of the guides are blatantly ripped off of web sites like this one. There is absolutely nothing in DVD copy plus that cannot be downloaded for free. Do not support people like this.

This particular ripoff is an ebook which explains how you can use the free software which they do not claim to own. They include Smartripper, DVDx and Vcdeasy. The worst part is that they are not even the latest versions of this software.

Watch out for other names like DVD Copy Pro or CopyMaster. Some include other stuff but its all freeware like virtuldub, Flask and a bitrate calculator.

The previous are rippoffs because they don't tell you that all they are selling is an ebook.

The following are real apps but ...........

There are also a couple of poorly modified versions of DVDx. (one is called BackupDVD) which try to incorporate CD writing like Dup-DVD but have some serious failings. The latest version that I saw of this program expects all the free workspace to be on drive "C" even when you assign another work drive and unlike DVDx needs 4 gig to process a movie. An older version of BackupDVD asked for more space but would let you override and never used more than 200mb of free space.
These guy's need beta testers but they won't get them by hiding their identity and selling a poor product. I don't know if the original author of DVDx is involved or if someone has just stolen his code and modified it after he made it public under the gnu license.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
