I am very competent at making vcd &xvcd but am starting to mess around w/ svcd. I have to put use the mpeg1 header trick on my mpeg2 files to get my dvd player to play them. I converted a 30 minute episode of friends that i ripped from the dvd. I used the default settings for tmpgenc's svcd(ntsc). it has a default of cbr. and i change motion search to high quality. What im getting at is why is the movie shake (from left to right) when i play it on my tv? i use nero to burn as vcd b/c my player doesnt like svcd discs. I have played svcd's on my player b/4 with the header trick and it played fine. the picture and sound are perfect when the shaking stops. but that is only for a few seconds here and there. help

Sounds like bad field order. Does it shake when their is no movement? If it doesn't the you have the wrong firld order.

Under setting find the field order setting ( second tab ) change it from what it is not to whatever is the opposite. Re-encode.

Is the field order going to be the same as when i encode to vcd?

I think it was set at A for the svcd and B for my vcd so maybe that is the problem. ill try that tonight. thanks

For VCD's field order does not matter since VCD is a single field stream. Mpeg-2 is a full frame 2 field compression so field dominence is important.

I tried encoding with the different fileds first but i never tested on my dvd player b/c when i went to the simple multiplex to put my mpeg1 header on the file it would not read the mpeg file that had filed orderB first. So i guess that field order A is the correct one. Any other suggestions. does the svcd that was shaky was encoded with CBR would VBR change it?

The multiplexor should not care... you must have done something else wrong.

You can use bbMPEG to multiplex if you would like to try again.
