To once and for all make these standalone DVD's region and MacroVision free, follow these steps:
Now, burn the modified firmware files to a CD-R or RW
- Download the latest firmware from VESEG.
Download the ABconf utility
Unzip the 4 firmware update files
Start ABconf and locate the firmware update files it asks for
Change the region setting to 0 by right clicking to bring up the dialog
Set Audio DACs to 3 to enable 5.1 sound
Set Macrovision to "disable"
Search thru all available options in the tree, looking for language/country specific settings, and enable/select the options that apply to you
Insert this CD in the DVD and pray that the power wont go during the update process, which will start automatically, as soon the DVD recogizes this as an update disc!

Will this "trick" solve the NTSC vs.PAL problem as well?
I have a Hitachi P-415U and it works only on NTSC.
Not the faintest idea, since I've never tried anything NTSC. Anyone else?
Hello, I've seen your post and I'd like to ask you if you know if it is possible to modify the firmware 4.1 of my 'SEG 2216 Las vegas' to make it cappable to show the subtitles of my SVCDs. I've seen with the ABconf a lot of options and I've modified the ones that make my DVD macrovision off and region free but I'd like to see my SVCDs with subtitles.
Thanks in advance
Nope - no idea. I'd guess that's more than a parameter setting - like a firmware patch. I could be wrong tho - didn't even know that SVCD subs wasn't supported, as I always encode my SVCD with permanent subs. Try contacting VESEG to see what they have to say for themselves.
