  1. I've been following this site closely for months. Using SmartRipper and CladDVD, I've successfully ripped hundreds of DVDs with and without encryption.

Until now I come across a DVD for some reason SmartRipper and CladDVD do not work anymore. The DVD is playing fine with PowerDVD and standalone DVD player. But when I try to rip it, SmartRipper keeps searching for the encrypted key and produces no output. CladDVD seems to be doing the ripping but at the end only produces 4kb file. Similarly, SmartRipper File mode and Backup are not able to rip the DVD as well.

Any idea what other encryption are there on the DVD? Has anyone came across this before?

  3. install an ASPI layer from the download section on http://www.eazyvcd.tk and then select "ASPI" "Vob File Access" in Smartripper.

Now you should be able to rip the DVD.

  4. offline,
It's a non-English speaking DVD so you wouldn't know it.

    dick_p_t,
The ASPI already installed. However, I succesfully ripped it now with DVD-Decrypter. After all I think DVD-Decrypter is the best ripper. At least it has 4 different ways of decrypting the DVD without using PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc to unlock the drive.

  5. newbie,

I was just interested & I collect lists of substandard or "difficult" DVD's
so I can avoid them for superior alt. region counterparts. Anyway
I reside in the same country as you & watch a fair share of foreign
films for pleasure and review (occasional guest on RRR's moviebuffs and also in print) so how do you know I would not know your title?

  6. offline,
Okies, you'd asked for it It's a "mini" Chinese TV series called Return of the Condors II. It comes with 29 DVDs (yes 29 DVDs, holly sh!t you said). I had no problems whatsoever ripping the first 28 DVDs until the last one.

Both SmartRipper and CladDVD failed me on the last DVD. Luckily, DVD-Decrypter didn't let me down

  7. LOL!! Newbie.. you got me. That series would not be based on Eastern Condors would it? Now that's a great chinese action film!

  8. Offline,
No, it's not. It's a kung-fu TV series. One of the best TV series ever made. If you ask any Chinese, everyone would know about it. In fact, it's called Return of the Condor Heros II. All together it goes on for 3 generations (hence 3 parts). Each part is at least 20 DVDs, yes you heard me right. The first part has 29 DVDs, second part has 26 DVDs, third part has 20 DVDs.

Don't ever try to rip anything like this unless you have all the time in the world like me

  9. I think I might have seen some episodes on HK cable. A period action
drama right? A scholar is employed by a Chinese emperor to sort out the
palace library and in doing so he finds certain scrolls, learning the secret to become a great martial artist, and is then sent to fight an evil cult.

70+ DVD's - you are going to melt your burner

  10. Yeah, most of the Chinese movies are very lengthly. They're all just like science fiction movies but with kung-fu. Don't know if they gonna melt the burner or not but I'm getting a spare burner just in case. But firstly, they'll burn my CPU
