    Hi,
I am fighting a loosing battle between formats
I have Pinnacle studio 7 software which only supports AVI.
I have Xtasy everything AGP card that captures MPEG2 720x480 video (YUV compression ?) without a frame drop (I think it does it in hw).
I have latest version of TMPGenc (2.58). I also have virtual dub.
So based on my readings I figured I can take my MPEG2 file and convert to AVI to feed into Studio 7.

Unfortunately I can't get TMPGenc to load sound file (using the same mpeg file name it complaints about unsupported format).

Next I tried vdub to see if I can extract just WAV to feed to TMPgenc,
no go because vdub can't load MPEG file created by my capture card

I tried to use vdub to capture directly to AVI but I get static noise in sound.

NOTE: MPEG file created by my card plays fine in MS media player WITH sound.

I can't believe I built a whole new computer to get best capture edit burn ability and now I am stuck with formats

    thanks,
    Robert

  3. robertzanzerkia,

If you want to import mpeg-2 to Tmpgenc you need
the Tmpgenc mpeg-2 codec (see tools section) and/or
load a copy of WinDVD or PowerDVD (mpeg-2 DVD software)

If you want to import mpeg-2 to Virtual Dub you
need use a program called DVD2AVI and frameserve
to Virtual Dub. Guides to frameserving can be found
    on the left hand side.

There are other programs (such as Ulead's DVD Movie Factory)
which you can download as a trial version and convert mpeg-2
    to AVI.

    Hi,
    Thanks for tips.
I do have WinDVD that came with my Xtasy capture card.

However I did found a work around (not a good one since I have to use MPEG1).

If I use VCDNTSC profile in Xtasy card during capture the resulting MPEG file can be converted using TMPGenc fine (including audio).

If above results in good quality then I may stick with that till I upgrade my editing software (Pinnacle studio V7) to MPEG version (V8). OR I upgrade TMPGenc Plus version (for now I have 30 day trial of MPEG2 codec).
