The only authorware I've used is MyDVD because it came with my DVD burner. It only suppots PCM audio which uses 40% of the file for audio. Reduces by about 25% the video you can store! Which authorware supports AC3 audio ??

  3. DVD Workshop. (You have to multiplex video and AC3 streams before importing to the program - use TMPGenc utility to do this). DVDWS will author without reecoding if your file is compliant.

That is right on .... Except I can't find an AC3 encode program to encode wave to AC3 DolbyDigital Stereo for less $$$ than it cost to buy one of the authoring progroms listed above by BJ.

Your other choice is to go with Mpeg1 layer 2 audio. Some of the old DVD players will not play mpeg 1 layer 2 only lpcm. All of the DVD players that I am aware of (look on the left for yourself) will play vcds. If the DVD player plays vcds it plays mpeg 1 layer 2. I just prefer AC3.

    .
just a question - does tmpgenc multiplex correctly for dvd ? (i.e. correct audio pregap and pack rate?) because i thought its only multiplexer was for vcd and svcd headers w/ vbr ...

i didnt know it could even multiplex ac3 -- learned something ... not that i need to multiplex it as the authoring program does it ..

  8. I've multiplexed 2/0, 3/0 & 3/2 AC3 with it and the burned DVDs play just fine. I don't know whether DVD WS is doing something extra to the file after its imported (it definitely doesn't reencode the video)
