I think you are on the right track. I use Scenalyzer and I like it very much. I am getting Vegas Video 3 next week, as I have heard nothing but great things about it. This is my step-up from VideoStudio I will use them with my Canopus ADVC-100 capture device.

I used Video Vegas 3.0 for the first time last night with my new ADVC-1394 and I really like it. Once you get on to some of the basics it is a really good editing program.

Can it perform some of the filtering options that you find in VirtualDub, like de-interlace and video smoothers?

  5. If you are using firewire, the DV camcorder is transfering the file as is to your computer. In other words, there is no ideal capturing program, they all do the same thing: they merely transfer the DV to your computer (usually as a a type 1 DV avi file). The capturing is actually done by the camcorder. You can use freeware programs such as dvio or amcap and get just as good results as expensive programs.

Editing DV is another story. I have heard good things about Video Vegas and Pinnacle Studio 7 or 8.

Not really too sure yet as I just started playing with it yesterday, but I think I might have saw it somewhere.
