  1. Hi i just started creating SVCD's after sucessfully creating VCD's. I notice that the SVCD template in TMPGe has a default audio bitrate of 128bps, but on the VCD template it is set @ 224bps. (both @ 44100Hz)

Is there must difference? What audio bitrate should i use?

    Any Advice greatly appreciated.

    Great Web Site/Forum.

  2. You can use any bitrate from 32Kb/sec up to 384Kb/sec and up to 2 audio tracks with SVCD. You will hear a difference in quality between 128 and 224. I personally don't go below 192 but it depends on what the audio is. With music I think you can get away with a lower bitrate, but basically the higher the bitrate, the better the quality. You'll just have to experiment a bit. Try encoding 1 min clips of say music, talking, and loud action scenes. try them all at 128 and 224. If your happy with the quality then go for it. Quality is an extremely subjective thing and many people will give you many answers!

    Good luck!

  3. VCD standart sets audio bitrate to 224 kbs. Point.
SVCD gives You more freedom (96~384) . What I would say, eperiment! It depends, what You record and from quality of encoder and also from playback equipment. Everything as with MP3. But unlike with DVD (bitrate-wise), the more You use for audio, the less will be left for video and these last tens of kbps-s may sometimes have decisive influence for picture quality.
I have used only 224 kbps, as my PVR-250 records at that and I don't want to re-encode, but I don't think, this is universal truth.

  4. Thanks for the advice, I will experiment with 192 & 224 bitrate levels.

    Thanks again.
