Hi There!!
I do have couple of questions.
Do you think DivX will replace DVD?
Here in India, electronic stuff is much expensive than US, so I am thinking bit hard; shall one wait till the DVD player with DivX support available in market?
Thanks!!

No. DVD Video is a standard whereas DivX is a number of codecs that are implemented differently. A DivX will never match a good commercial DVD in picture quality, sound quality and on disc features. DVD's inherintly support switchable subtitles, custom menus and multiple video and audio angles.Originally Posted by dusane

I wouldn't. Whilst the hardware decoding chips are available AFAIK no manufacturers have commited themselves to making a DivX compatible player. You could be waiting a very long time.Originally Posted by dusane -
dusane,
while it is possible that some varient of MPEG-4 will be used
in the next generation HD DVD specs, you will be waiting
up to 2 years for the 1st standard models. Last time I heard
there were plenty of inexpensive DVD models and movies
available in India - you don't have to buy a Japanese/US brand!
