  1. I seem to have nothing but problems with MyDVD! First, using MyDVD, I capture in the "good" mode (lower bitrate than normal, but these are old VHS tapes I'm converting) which should allow me approximately 2 1/2 hours of capture time. When I went to author it, MyDVD alerted me that it had to make the file DVD compliant, or some such jazz, and boosted the file to well over 6 GB! The instructions say that this is only supposed to happen when I capture from another capture device, but I am using MyDVD to do it all!

Well, apparently, the new MyDVD upgrade recognizes this problem (I installed it last week) but now my captures suddenly end at any time with a little note saying it lost the video signal, when I can still see the moving images in the capture window! I tried different VHS decks, different tapes and it still happens, generally around the 50 min. mark. I still have several GBs left on my designated hard drive. What to do?

Whats your input device and how are you connected? Is it a PCI card inside your computer with video in or are you using firewire or usb with breakout box?

I also have MyDVD, but never used it to capture video. Why? Its been my experience that inexpensive "do-many-things" apps, dont deliver what they promise. The only exceptions being VirtualDub and TMPG Encoder. I sometimes use MyDVD only to author and burn DVD, but never capture.

  3. Ragrost,

I have the new Sony DVD DRU 500A writer, MyDVD, Showbiz, etc.
I have a DV firewire connection and had the same problem when capturing in either MyDVD or Showbiz. It seems that when the video signal drops out (as in when on the original recording when you stop and recording again on your camcorder...in other words a gap in a scene) the capturing software thinks the video is disconnected and thus stops capturing. Although on Showbiz, it still captures everything up to that point and automatically stops the playback on the camcorder. Annoying yes, but I can see why it does it. Its looking for a clean uninterrupted source recording to record from.

my problem is now getting what I captured in Showbiz to author in MyDVD.
