  1. Anyone have or know of a good template to use in tmpgenc to get a quality output around 1.6gb. I want to to put blade2 and training day on one DVD. I tried KDVD's templates but I get blocking during some action scenes, otherwise the output is great at 1.3gb. My audio is around 383meg so I need the movie no more than 1.6gb. This should leave me around 300meg for my own navigation menus and other overhead after 2 movies.

    Thanks

  3. Hey baker thanks for responding, I'm actually in the process of it now. 2 things...WOW CCE is fast 12hrs w/TMPGenc, 2hrs w/CCE...but a pain in the butt to get started. Training day turned out great about 1.2gb, 1.6 w/sound. Blade2 still having problems with some scenes. The movie is very dark and there are 2 scenes giving me problems. 1 is where a black light is used everything is blue(very blocky) the second is where a light bomb is used and the screen is bright white(very blocky) If you haven't seen the movie, think vampires and light, anyways very happy with everything else. I'm tinkering with some settings, but I wish there was a way to isolate those scenes and apply higher settings and leave the rest alone. My bit rate is set at 300min and 6000 max with 70cq but still having the same problems.

    Hey Cardfan,

I use a variation on the KDVD templates and made a combo disc with Blade & Blade2. I have found no "blocky" scenes in the two rips, except for the opening scene in Blade2 when the bus/trolly is going down the street, there little "pulsing" bars in the dark areas of the scene. But that's it.

    The parameters that I used for both movies are as follows;

Min 750 (My DVD players don't like 300)
    Max 4000
    CQ 70

Motion Search Precision: Highest Quality (very slow)

The variation to the KDVD template is that I set the GOP to 1-5-2-1-18.

I found that Kwag's GOP could sometimes lead to abrupt scene changes as there were ocasionally not enough "I" frames for a smooth scene transition.

My file size for Blade, video only, was about 1.7 gig as it is non-anamorphic. The file size for Blade2, video only, was right around 2 gig or so as it is an anamorphic movie.

I did, have to reduce the audio to 192 kilobit MP2 surround, using HeadAC3he, in order to make it all fit.

Yeah, bummer that TMPGenc is so slow, but it does let you mess with GOP's at Q.Matrices if you want ....

    Right cardman-

I was racking my brains over how to do what you are saying as it is a tough proposition as blade 2 is a very action type movie, then it hit me.

    Follow these instruction:

    open up dvd2avi.

first load the vob files in from training day (here comes the good bit) then load the vobs in from blade 2.

Now create an avs file so CCE can read the dvd2avi prjt file.

    Now heres the good part

When encoding begins CCe will make a vaf file to see which scenes need the bitrate most. And since I am presuming training day is a slow motion movie it will give more bitrate to the high action scens in blade 2!

    Good eh?

Nad even if training day isn't a low motion movie this method is still best as CCE will still spread out the bits evenly.

Now when CCE is finisshed encoding your movies will have two very different file sizes but of course will fit on 1 dvd-r

You can now cut with bbmpeg to make 2 mpg files which you can feed into your authoring program!

P.S. if you liked my help I would love a copy of blade 2 and I aint seen training day! (snigger)

    Good luck,

  7. Thanks again guys for reponding, CCE's local variable settings let me fix Blades tough scenes. I wish I would of used this program along time ago with the visual view of the bitrate allocations it allows for pinpoint manipulation...awesome.

Baker, never heard combining the movies like you mentioned I'll have to give that a try sometime, didn't even know you could do that. Oh Baker, I'm afraid by the time I upped the dvd over my phone line to you blade3 would be out and Retiring Day would be released as the sequal to training day...Ha Ha, I'm a smart ass I know. Just wondering and I've seen it before what the hell is a snigger? Ya I know I'm also a dumb ass.

MoovyGuy, have you used CCE before? just wondering it looks as if we joined this forum about the same time and have been woundering the same path. If you haven't, give it a try, a few more steps a little more patience, a little bigger learning curve at first, but not too bad. I think you might switch. I also read in another post you can use a saved project file from tmpgenc in CCE. This giving you the best of both worlds, templates plus speed.

Yes you can do this, however its a bit useless as of course yu can't put in things like kvcd because CCe only supports standards.

As for sending me a copy, I have recieved a good few films for my cvd and vcd guide over the last year, ppl just mail them to me, usually costs about 2.50 euro. But if you don't want to thats ok, just loved blade 2 and would like to own the dvd.

And just as a final note:

    For vcd use panasonic

    for dvd/svcd use CCE

    for anything X use tmpegenc.
