    can you make mp3s into mpegs so they just have music and no pictures?

    Why bother? Many DVD players play MP3s directly. VCD format doesn't support MP3 audio. To make a VCD like you suggested, you have to convert MP3 audio into MPEG-1 Layer-2 audio with significant quality loss. However, it is definitely doable.
