  1. Hi,

Seems to be one problem after another:

    Got 23.976fps >pulldown 29.970fps MPEG2+AC3.
Imports into Ulead DVDworkshop ok, and authors fine but in playback the second half (where the second of the two mpeg files begins) loses audio.

Source files are fine, and its fine in preview.

Was advised to try Spruceup or DVDMaestro. Fine.
Except that neither will accept the mpeg files. Spruceup and Maestro require non muxed video and audio, so I took the original non muxed files and chucked them at it.

"Progressive Frame flag in Picture Coding Extension is set to 0 (0xc1070013)"

    !

    Get this with both!

Why is this? the mpegs were created in TMPGenc with DVD NTSC templates, VBR 23.976fps. I then used PULLDOWN on them to make them 29.970.

    What gives?

Note that I tried checking and then unchecking all sorts of options in the PULLDOWN gui, to no avail.

A 24fps original would be, by its nature, a PROGRESSIVE stream. When you do the PULLDOWN, always have the program mark these as PROGRESSIVE streams (it sets the progressive flag). A "0" here would seem to indicate an interlaced stream. The programs know that it is not, because there is a pulldown flag turned on.

It's more easily seen if you use the PULLDOWN GUI.

  3. Isnt mpeg2 supposed to be interlaced anyway tho?
I certainly compressed it to interlace - which worked fine in Ulead with last effort.

Anyway - set pulldown gui to progressive, but still not being accepted.

mpeg2 can be interlaced or progressive ...

if your source was film 24fps (23.97) you should have encoded it at 23.97 internal 29.97 external frame rate and set playback to do pulldown on playback (do NOT set pulldown on adv tab) ..

I hope that you set the frame rate to 29.97. Load your mpegs into Bitrate Viewer and see what it tells you about your streams. Also, preview your streams in DVD2AVI and see what it reports about your streams (set FIELD OPERATION to NONE).

  6. Ummm..

    Encoded @ 23.976 straight

    Then applied pulldown

Whats this aboot 23.976internal 29.970 externally, I see options in Tmpgenc for internal fps and external fps but not applying to 23.976>29.970

Can someone write me a quick little eact list of things to do in tmpgenc to achieve what I want here?

eg: Load DVD NTSC profile, set fps to X, which field first etc...
Note that its just the video I'm interested, since the audio is AC3...

set the encode mode and frame rate like this (dont pay attention to the other settings in this pic for dvd)..

in the adv tab you should have source as progressive (needs to be set first)

and do not check off 3:2 pulldown

  8. Ok, set this, and am rendering as I type

At work just now, but should be finished by the time I get back.

Will I still have to apply pulldown to the finished render?
