  1. AFter spending about a week getting familar with the Xtasy Everything Personal Cinema, I'm about to give up and move on to another device. Here's why.

Using the suggestions in the threads regarding this card, I had the following setup working in a quite acceptable manner.

    Asus A7v133
    1.33 T-Bird CPU
    512MB SDRAM
    80GB 7200 RPM Maxtor HDD
    Aureal SQ2500

    w2k Pro
    WDM 1.08
    NVIDIA 23.11 reference drivers

WinDVR 1.06 was crap so I used VirtualDub as a tuner and capture software. I was capping with very good vid quality using the HuffyUV codec and encoding with TMPEG. The ONLY real issue I had was some crackling and pops when capturing VHS footage (I later read that it's best to just bypass the breakout box altogether).

Well, then I had started having some hardware issues and had to migrate the setup to another mobo/hdd (bad mobo & hdd). My "new" setup is as follows:

    MSI K7Turbo2
    1.2 Duron
    768MB SDRAM
    30GB Maxtor 5400 RPM
    Aureal SQ2500

    w2k Pro
    WDM 1.08
    NVIDIA 23.11 reference drivers

So basically the same setup but different mobo/hdd. I can capture but NO sound. Zero sound (in captures) regardless of input. I can hear sound but it just won't capture it. I tried this with the MS Vidcap software and VirtualDub, same results. Fresh install of w2k pro.

    Any ideas?

Also I need to replace the (other) motherboard. This machine will be used strictly for video editing using the specs listed in the first config above. Can anybody provide some motherboard solutions in a Socket A platform that uses PC133 RAM? Maybe people who have been successful can leave their specs???

I have a hunch that this is an issue with the MSI motherboard...

edit: I forgot to mention that I tried a number of different WDM driver/NVIDIA driver combinations that were unsuccessful.

  2. UPDATE!

OK, so I decided to try the demo of WINDVR 1.8 and lo and behold it worked!

So now I"m left with the question of why I can't dub audio in VirtualDub.

    Anybody have suggestions?

My other option is to upgrade to WINDVR 2.0 for $15 (direct download from their site). Right now this seems to be the best option.

  3. I've had a number of problems configuring my xtasy everything. I have an MSI board with the SiS 645E chipset. I've narrowed the problems down through a lot of experimentation over the past 3 weeks, but haven't gotten things completely squared away.

One thing though that did help was to visit the SiS website and download all the latest drivers, particularly the AGP driver. I had visited MSI's website for bios and chipset, but they didn't have the latest AGP drivers. Once I installed that, the system became much more stable. Another thing I'd recommend is trying to capture using AVI_IO. It's much easier to use and more flexible than WinDVR and has worked for me with this card.

My particular ongoing problem is that if I open any other video application when running TMPGEnc, my system crashes. I was getting the "infinite loop" BSOD before, now with the latest AGP drivers I get a "windows has recovered from device defect" message. I figure that either TMPGEnc has a problem with XP or Xtasy Everything, or my vid card is defective (which is how I'm leaning right now). Either way, if I don't get it straigthened away soon, I'm ditching the card. OH. And I have to used the oldest Nvidia drivers on the card to attain any kind of stability at all with TMPGEnc, otherwise it crashes just with encoding.

It's would be a shame to ditch the card as the caps look really nice. But it's been buggy as hell to work with so far.

    Good luck!

  4. Hi ch3rrytw1st,

I have this card also. Here is my experience:

I installed the bundle software: WinDVR and tried to record. Video and audio is out of sync. I upgraded to ver 2 ($15), downloaded new driver from VisionTek and Directx 8.1 from Microsoft. All video/audio problems solved and get a little better video quality when recording using VCD format.

Virtualdub is using VFW instead of WDM. You have to configure it to use the Line-in or Aux in from your sound card. If you miss this, you don't have sound.

This card use Philips 9-bit ADC video decoding chip which is better than BT878 (8-bit ADC). I also tested Prolink Xcapture card (10-bit ADC) which give me the sharpest picture. This card only give you 2 input: s-video and composite. This card costs $39 from prolink.

  5. Update:

The problem was definitely a defective card. I replaced the card with a Gainward card. The card installed instantly and has performed flawlessly without any tweaking at all.
