I've been scouring these newsgroups and the Internet for a way to capture directly to SVCD compliant files and have found none that work well. I have an ATI AIW Radeon AGP which does dandy MPEG 1 and 2 captures, but any tool I use to capture does not produce an SVCD compliant file. The tips on demuxing and remuxing using TMPEGenc 12 have not worked for me... Ulead's DVD plugin for Media Studio Pro still rejects the input.

I've tried the MMC 7.1 from ATI and also PowerVCR II 3.0 but it doesn't have an SVCD capture template. Isn't there any program that lets you schedule a capture and have the MPG file be SVCD compliant?

I can't wait 4-6 hours for a file to be converted into SVCD format, especially when my system is fully capable of capturing SVCD-quality MPG on the fly.

    PLEASE, any answers appreciated.

  2. 1. Setup SVCD capture template.
    - 480X480
    - MPEG-2
    - Variable bit rate of 2300000 (2600000 max)
    2. Capture to file.
    3. Use TMPGEnc MPEG Tools to do simple demux.
    4. Use TMPGEnc MPEG Tools to do simple SVCD type remux.
    5. If using Pioneer player, use fix12c to correct frame size.
    6. Use Nero to burn SVCD.

    Works for me!

  3. You don't need fix12c if you use TMPGEnc templates from builds before 12c or after 12d.

  4. VidGuy,

That's true if you are using TMPGENc to encode your SVCD. However, we are talking about real-time encoding using the ATI AIW.

There is a bug in the ATI software which causes the SDE fields to have the wrong value. This causes the picture to appear enlongated on Pioneer, and possibly other, DVD players.

fix12c fixes this problem for ATI users.
