  1. Hi,
I have a Panasonic DVD-RV31K standalone player (which is GREAT btw .. and Made in Japan - unlike most of other ones made in China, Taiwan, etc ...)

Before investing in a MPEG-1 hardware decoder card (like WINTV PVR or ATI TV Wonder) I just want to hear some opinions from you guys.

    Imagine the following scenario :

I install my MPEG card and connect it through S-Video to my DVD player.

Question : will I be able to record MPEGs (and the burn them as VDC on CDs) from a DVD running in my DVD standalone player ??? I read thet the decoder encodes the MPEGs in real time, the thing that I wanna know is if I can record from my Player.

    Thnx.

    Luke

someone on the forum is already doing exactly that. i remember this from a thread on "how long does it take you to go from DVD to VCD?" or something like that. one poster claimed, "the time that it takes to view the DVD plus burning time". there are other members here that are using machines with CPUs which are fast enough (1.2ghz and higher?) to encode at almost a 1:1 ratio. still you gotta add in the ripping and burning times.
