    Hi everybody

    Just a little question:

I have some movies in 320x240, 280x176, .... To make SVCD, i'm just add black borders to resize to 480x480. ( I've earn that is not a good idea to resize a movie because a loss of quality). It play well on my tv screen.

So, if i want to convert these movies to CVD, i can't do that because the screen is stretched horizontally by my home DVD player when it play on tv.

How to fit or resize non-standard movie size to CVD, keeping the right aspect ratio? There is a mathematical rule?

    Thanks to all

    Hmm, very good question,
    resize to 704 x 288 ( 240 ) in VirtualDub and frameserve or
run a AVIsynth Bicubic resize into you MPEG encoder of choice,
of course your really wrecking the quality but.... it would work and keep the correct aspect ratios

  3. I work out the resize for an 352 x 288 encode and then double the vertical figure (as you are doubling the 288 figure to get 576). Just remember the "16" rule!

you would run into this problem

    do it that way
you need to keep your encode frame correct and let the anamorphic resize take care of the output frame

  5. You've lost me there! I have successfully done this with quite a few downloads and no stretched screens anywhere.

Remember to enter the new resize figures into the "Centre Custom Size" box in TMPGenc. I assume that is what he was doing anyway.

    Thanks for your help!

But i find the best way to resize my videos by adding black borders to reach 352x240. Then i resize to 352x480 using bicubic method.

So, for 320x180 29.97fps video, my avs script look like this:

    AVISource("Styx.AVI")
    ConvertToYUY2()
    AddBorders(16,30,16,30)
    BicubicResize(352,480,0.33,0.33)
    ResampleAudio(44100)

I use the frameserving method to produce MPEG2 files with CCE SP, because the output quality is better than Tmpeg for MPEG2.

    Isn't ?

At a certain point good quality is what you are happy with.
If that script looks good to you then go with it.
The method I suggested DOES introduce a lot of extra work into the encode process and may not be the best
