  1. I have a couple of VHS movies I bought while travelling in Europe that I'd like to convert from PAL to (S)VCD. My DVD player has no problem playing PAL/NTSC, but I only own an NTSC VCR. I do know of a Video conversion place just down the road that could do it for $25 per cassette, but I'd rather have the capability to do it myself. Does anyone know if it would jsut be best to buy a PAL VCR and hook it up to my analog in card(AverStereo) or is there some kind of PAL-NTSC converter that I could get like at Radio Shack or something?

You tested it on your VCR ?. Our European VHS players record in PAL but playback both. I had the problem the other way around, needed to convert a PAL into NTSC (VHS) for someone in the USA, in the end I recorded the PAL VHS onto the PC and converted it to NTSC (VCD) with TMPGEnc.

Your tape is PAL 50, so make sure anything you get is the same, some have PAL 50 in PAL 60 out, there are all sorts of combinations, same for DVD Players.

Next time buy DVD's then rip them . You need to visit your local electrical stores to see what's available, or update your VHS to a newer model if it wont play PAL
