Where are you seeing a "*.VCD" file? Is it really an MPG with a different extension?

  3. that's the file extention, yes.

I also burned using a normal iso method and put it in my dvd player and it couldn't find any playable files.

Where did you get (or make) a file with a VCD extension? I don't believe that is a normal or known extension for a video file.

First determine if the file is actually an MPG file. You can either use a program like mpegprop or just rename the file to *.mpg and then double-click it to see if it plays. If it is an MPG file, then open up Nero and select Video CD as the project type and drag the file into it. If the file is VCD spec it should give you no problems, if not, you will have to re-encode it with either Nero or (better yet) TMPGenc.

  5. If its a .dat file you can rename to .mpg and just use tmpge to remuxed the mpg and it should burn with NERO, providing it plays when you double click it.

  6. .VCD may be a type of disc image (the extension standing for "Virtual CD").

I can't remember which disc imaging / phantom CD drive program uses this format.

It may (probably) not have anything to do with Video-CDs at all.
