    hi

I just finished encoding my first avi to mpg file and it went well, so i burnt it with the latest version of nero, also without a problem.

I tried playing it on my standalone dvd player which is a vcd compatible phillips dvd820 player but it didnt work, so i put the disk in my cdrom drive and opened it and it has a heap of files ....the files i have got are as follows

    cdi
    ext
    mpegav
    vcd

I have no idea what to do now could someone please help me with this i am at a loss and would appreciate any help given

    thanks

Did you use TMPGEnc to convert the AVI to Mpeg 1, and load a VCD template PAL/NTSC ?

When you looked at the disk you seen the folders, did it ever accrue to you to have a look "inside the folders" , I am sure if you did, you would fine the large .dat file (Which will play in WMP)

Cheap CDR's are also a problem, try a different brand of disk, Maxell, TDK are good

    Thanks for your help Kingjohn

I had a look indie and yes the .dat file was there, you will have to excuse my ignorance, i am only new to conversion.

I am going to try a cdrw yamaha disk if that doesnt work i will try a TDK and see how i go with it.

Obviously i burnt and converted it right, about time too lol, so i am hoping it is the disk.

  4. The phillips dvd820 may work best with CDRW disks. Try this first... if it works then look towards getting CDR's of dark green/blue dye - not
    gold or silver.

Sorry, having got annoyed by other people in the forum, my remarks are sometimes a bit rude.

It was meant to come out funny "Did you even look" "I never thought to look" hope you have a sense of humor.

There is sometimes a confusion with VCD, people see VCD on the front of a DVD player and automatically think it’s the one they want. However the VCD it refers to are commercial "Pressed" VCD's and are not made the same way as "CDR VCD"

Without looking up your model, I would not know if they support CDR CDRW as well as VCD

If you just started out, then making a fully compliant VCD on good quality disks is the first step. If that does not work, you need to try different brands and CDR-W if that don’t work... Give it up Sometimes the burn speed helps with some disks made, slower is needed sometimes.

    Hi KingJohn

LOL i wasnt sure if you were joking or not, but thats ok i understand that some peeps can be a real pain, and i didnt want to be a statistic but i did feel like an air head lol not looking in the folders but then i wasnt sure what a .dat file was.

You were right it was the quality of the disk that was the problem, i keep a few different brands around the house, it just so happens i used the crap ones and my dvd player didnt like it.

The only problem i am having now is with the sound and the picture gets blocks that fade in and out but overall its not too bad.

Is there another programme i can use to rectify the sound problem?

I will search the forum to see if anyone else has had this problem, but in the mean time if you can tell me anything i would appreciate it.

    Thanks again
