I suggest you read Sefy's DVD2AVI DVD Conversion guide available from the left margin. It details in about 4 pages how to use the mp3 compression, but only after suggesting that you not do so as quality will suffer.

These are the settings I use in DVD2AVI version 1.77.3.
    Under the 'Audio' tab:
Select track (usually 1 for English)
Under 'Output Method', choose 'Decode to WAV (AC3, DTS)'
Under 'Dolby Digital Decode', choose 'Dolby Surround Downmix'
Under 48-> 44.1 KHz' choose 'Ultrahigh'

Disable 'MP3 Compress' if this is an option in your version of DVD2AVI

  5. then, after that, when i press "save project", will DVD2AVI automatically start the process? also, how long would it take approximately? once again, i appreciate your help.

Yes, just save project, and make sure you have a couple of gigs of HD space. I have a slow PC (733 MHz) and most movies take at least an hour. I processed Lord of the Rings last night and it took about 2 hours. I'm forcing film (because movie type is NTSC Film) and this adds to the time. But if you think that's long...wait 'til you get to TMPEGEnc....

yup dvd2svcd all the way. set audio to 160kbit, downsample from 48 - 44khz (only if your dvd player won't play at 48 i'm assuming), and use CCE with 4 pass VBR. Does an excellent job, plus since it does everything for you, just click the Go button and leave it overnight.

  9. I have a question . I tried doing what dragonsau1988 said in the first post. Only on the audio part I didn't choose decode to wav. so I got three of these instead-- (file name) AC3T01 3_leh 32kbps DELAY Ums.ac3--
Are these the audio files that would go into the audio input in tmpgenc? If they are is it ok to use them instead of .wav or should I do the dvd2avi over again?

  10. If you do not like working with dvd2avi why don't you try using CladDVD XP. It rips your DVD for you and has a frameserving option that opens dvd2avi automatically and runs it for you. In the end you have your .d2v and .wav files. I use it all the time and it works excellent.

  12. I believe you can get CladDVD XP from this site. Just look under the tools section on the left hand side. It will be listed under DVD rippers.
