  1. I used to be able to burn .wmv files to vcd compliant format using Nero, it will auto encode for me. Recently I reformatted my PC and reinstalled and upgraded to Nero 5.5.9.9, and when I do so, it says "Unsupported file format", I downloaded the SVCD plugin for Nero and it does not work.

I then downloaded TMpeg and used it to convert, but it can't open the .wmv files. I tried renaming it .asf, but it still can't open. I have a lot of .wmv files and really wish to burn them off. Can someone please help? Any help is deeply appreciated, thanx.

Try installing this. It may help. It is a compilation of just about
    all the codecs out there.

  4. Thanx for the replies, but they still don't work! The stoik .wmv converter says it cannot open the inut file (which I checked many times; it can be viewed with Windows Media Player).

After I installed the Nimo Build 8 pack, whenever I drag a .wmv file into Nero, it auto closes the program! Argh...

Grab this nice SMALL program. All you have to do is drag
your file over to the .exe and drop it. It will then tell you
the specs on your file. After that you can decide which course
of action to take with it.

When I had an asf (same as wmv) file to convert I trashed it after
a month spent on trying to convert it. I just downloaded a dvd rip
of the same movie. Could not find it before I got the asf file, that is why
I spent a month working on it.

    Goodluck!

  6. Ok, I solved my problem and I feel like a dumbass now. I realised the problem was due to some conflicts caused when I downloaded some DivX codecs. I don't know which one in particular but it sure screwed up everything. Somehow it caused only .mpg files to be recognised. Thanx everyone for the help.

  8. I'm not sure too, but ever since I installed it, I couldn't view .wmv files, whenever I try to view with WMP, "invalid fault" errors would pop up. After uninstalling it, everything was back to normal.

Hi guys, i have finally found a way to encode wmv files to mpeg files using tpmgenc.

Previously i was not able to do this because the new type of wmv files are protected by Microsoft.

To be able to do encode using tpmgenc, download windows media player 9, Windows Media Player Codecs 8.0 and Windows Media Encoder 9 from www.microsoft.com

After installing everything, restart the PC
And open tpmgenc to try and convert to vcd.
It should work without any error messages.

  10. Care to share? I bought TMPEG Pro and am not able to convert WMV to MPG like it says I should. It will only let me convert to split audio and viceo (WAV and MP2) I need to convert WMV and ultimately get it to a DV stream for iMovie and iDVD.
    Thanks
