  1. Hi everyone
I have a movie with the following values, according to Virtual Dub:

Frame size: 352x208, 20.000 fps (strange values?)
    Time: 54:26
    Decompressor: MS MPEG4-V3

    Audio: Stereo, MPEG Layer3

I've been reading FAQs and forums up and down and I'm not sure to what format I should encode this movie? The movie is apparently good quality, at least it looks great on my PC screen.

What encoding would retain this quality but also produce a file that'd fit on my 80min CD-RW? I experimented with XVCD, because it's supposed to give better quality than VCD. I also downloaded the KVCD-templates for TMPEnc and tried to fiddle with resolutions ( set it to 480x480 by hand) and bitrates (the files got so large they wouldn't fit on my CD) I tried FitCD, but couldn't quite figure out, how to load an Avisynith-script into TMPEnc.

There are so many options available... Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Well It's 352x208 so it should be a good match for VCDFilm. Should end up 550MB or so.

  3. Thanks! But shouldn't I try to bump up the resolution or encode it as an SVCD to get as much quality as possible?

You will not get any more quality by encoding it as SVCD, in fact it might look worse and you will be doubling your disk space.

  5. Are you saying: If the source material has a low resolution, it doesn't make much sense to go try and improve the quality for the TV screen?
Thanks for your input again. It would be great, if you could elaborate a little more, though.
