problems cutting mpeg in tmpg?

hi, I cannot seem to cut my mpegs with tmpgenc`s merge/cut tool anymore.
When I load the mpeg I cannot move the slider bar to set the cut position anymore, It used to work.
I am in XP pro and if I boot to win98 and use the same prog it works...
Any help would be greatly received as I don`t want to keep going into Win98 to edit.

For what it's worth, I had this same problem recently - I tracked it down to a conflict between TMPGEnc and WINDVD, some how they had 'tripped' each other up preventing TMPGEnc from doing MPEG playback. I just uninstalled and re-installed WinDVD and the conflict was removed - both now work fine.
