I am trying to split a large .avi up into two parts so they can fit on one disc each, but all the software I've found to split up an .avi has to recompress it first, which takes many, many hours. All I want to do is cut the last half hour off of the movie! I have been using VirtualDub. Can anyone suggest a better way to split an avi up than to recompress two different parts, wasting about 10 hours of my life?

You don't need to recompress the AVI. In Virtualdub, under the Video tab swith the from full processing mode to direct stream copy, do the same with the audio tab. Select the portion you want to cut with the brackets, and hit save avi. A few minutes later, Voila! You're done.
