    Hi All
I have just burned my very first DVD after following Derrow's excellent guide for creation of the VIDEO_TS folder. I ended up with a 4.1GB folder with only English Video and Audio, exactly as I wanted. PowerDVD can play it direct from the hard drive no problem.
Burned to quality Philips +RW disc using Nero 5.5.8.1 that came with the drive (Philips DVDRW228K). I selected DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) and unchecked Joliet as per Derrow's guide to using Nero, and burned it.
The resulting disc will not play with PowerDVD - it says the disc is not formatted, even though Nero did a successful erase on the media before it started burning - and is not recognised by me Pioneer DV350 player either.
Is it Nero? I also have a copy of SonicMyDVD but this looks basic?? The other program I have is RecordNow Max 4.1. Should I try this?
    All constructive comments appreciated.

  2. You should definately upgrade Nero to the latest version (v5.5.9.9) if you are going to use it. Many people will also probably recommend that you use RecordNow Max instead of Nero. Give it a shot.

  3. I wouls also select DVD (VIDEO) if using Nero.

  4. I was using the UDF/ISO template and it works fine. You just have to manually create the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders.

    Enemy Within -
Thanks for your response. I made an empty AUDIO_TS folder at the end of the process as suggested by Derrow just before burning so it sounds as though I am trying to do it the same way as you may have. Please confirm the unchecking of Joliet?
Hopefully it is just Nero - I am reburning the same VIDEO_TS folder very shortly with upgraded Nero (5.5.9.9).

    Bel -
Thanks for replying - do you successfully burn +RW in this mode?

  6. Yup, have a 200i and have been doing +rw and +r like that since the beginning. I've heard a lot of people talk about the problems with Nero, but I haven't seen them. My +r's have worked in every dvd player I've tried (about 9) and the +rw slightly less. Maybe 6 out of the 9.

Just read the comments listed against my player (Pioneer DV350) - says in two places not to use Nero!
Could anyone who is using the Pioneer 350 and burning +RW for it please detail how??

    Bel -
I don't suppose any of the players you tried your creations in were Pioneers were they?

  9. No, sorry... Give Recordnow Max a try if he new version of Nero doesn't work for you. People say its better, but as I've said I haven't run across any problems with my experience (which is limited, granted).

OK, update. I have upgraded Nero to 5.5.9.9 and reburned the same files I tried earlier. Just in case, I switched on verification as well.
The disc now plays fine in PowerDVD, but is still rejected by Pioneer DV350 with the "can't play disc" message.
On the Players List for the DV350, Gelu writes:
"very good player that plays v-cd svcd (problems with aspect ratio)and dvd-r, dvd-rw and dvd+rw, (have not test dvd+r), but don`t burn with nero, that discs will not work!. excellent picture and sound! Nice menue."
Only he/she doesn't list what software DOES work.
    David Allen notes that:
"Purchased this player to accept home produced DVD+RW discs produced on a Philips DVD208+RW burner and edited using Uleads Studio Video 6 software......this Pioneer machine would accept these and other VCD and SVCD discs."
Is Uleads Studio Video 6 a burning software as well as editing?

IF DAVID OR GELU ARE OUT THERE PLEASE DETAIL YOUR BURNING METHODS!!

Off now to try using RecordNow Max (Grrrrrrrr)!
