Got Ulead DVDWS and for already made MPEGS it is great, no fussing about not being White Book standard, just start, edit, add menus and go. For more complex/ ambitious projects I'm going to have to learn PhotoShop, PhotoImpact or some other program to learn how to create motion menus from scratch. I was reading about it in a post somewhere that this can be done, takes alot of work form what I can see, but worth it if you don't have $30K under the bed matress to get a pro DVD authoring program.
Getting to the point, I know TSCV is a good proggy for VCDs but what I want it to create selectable DVD menus like the ones explained in Doom9's DVDMaestro menu. I already have the necessary programs but have never use them. Concepts such as overlays, and such are beyond me and although it is clear what to do, it does not explain how to create the menus, only that to use a good photo editor. Where can I find this info without going crazy?. This link explains the process required. Steps 2 and 5 are the ones that I need help with understanding. Is there any kind of tutorial anyone can recommend? I've done various searches but they're either too basic or too advanced or an in-person or CD tutorial at best.

  2. WHAT IS A MOTION MENU?
    1. BASICALLY, IT IS JUST AN AVI(MPEG) FILE, ALTHOUGH BRIEF(20,30 SECONDS?) AND HOPEFULLY LOOPABLE.
    2. YOUR SOFTWARE USUALLY WILL ADD THE BUTTON LINKS TO IT.
YOU SON'T HAVE TO LEARN PHOTOSHOP, ETC(ALTHOUGH BETTER IF YOU DO), JUST KNOW HOW TO CREATE AN AVI(MPEG ) FILE THAT YOU LIKE, AND USE IT AS A MENU BACKGROUND.

Thanks for the info rick-kim but if you look at the Doom 9 DVD Maestro guide you'll see what I'm talking about.

  4. You cannot make selectable menus as per DVD on a VCD or SVCD.

You can "simulate" it by making multiple still images where each show an option "selected" and pressing say "prev" and "next" will "scroll" between the options by jumping to the different screens.

You cannot use overlay graphics with SVCD or VCD.

    Regards.
