I am trying to author some home VHS videos onto DVD+R and I would like to know what would be a good bitrate for such a project so I will not lose quality of the original yet I will conserve space by using the optimal bitrate for such quality source.
Also I'd like to take recommendations on bitrate for DV videos......

I use Half D1 (352*576 PAL) (352*480NTSC) at VBR 3500 average.
Typical file size is:
178 minutes: 3,797,482 Bytes
