I followed a newbie guide and everything. I ripped with SmartRipper, an exact back up copy of 1 of my movies. The whole thing is 4.32GB. So now i have the the "target" folder with the VIDEO_TS folder with all the ripped files in it. I then made an AUDIO_TS folder to coincide with the VIDEO_TS folder in the "target" folder.(hope you're following)![]()
Now i open up PrimoDVD and go to open full application. I go to file and select data. I then click the folder icon and load the VIDEO_TS and the AUDIO_TS folders. I select my recorder which is my DVD burner. Choose 1x and also select test, record and verify. I also made sure that in settings, it was set to track at once and in UDF with joilet.
Finally i press the little red dot and it starts recording. It goes through the initialization process and then it's already on finalizing and at 100% within 3 minutes.![]()
It's like it's literally creating data on my DVD-RW?? It shouldn't be zipping through the burning that fast.
So anybody have any clue what im doing wrong? Im used to using Nero and Nero does all the work for you. All you do is drag each file of your VIDEO_TS, into Nero's root VIDEO_TS folder and it does the video and audio all on its own.![]()
So what should i do????????

Just a suggestion. Try ripping with DVD Decrypter and use ISO/READ mode. It will create a nice .iso file of the DVD w/o encryption. Then enter back into the decrypter program and go into ISO/WRITE mode and burn it. This is the easiest way to burn DVD-5 discs, period. Let me know how it works for you.

I think he is trying to learn PrimoDVD for future DVD recording
Here is a screenshot of a current burn I am doing:
Does yours look similar to that? -
Yup...It looks exactly the same. The only difference is i don't have the lable folder and i didn't write anything in the volume lable. The problem i have is, the yellow bar that goes through the burn process at the top, zooms right through. Then it sits at the finalizing 100% mark for about 5 minutes. It's as if it's burning a data cd, rather than burning a DVD-Video. The first time it did this and after the cd was done, only about a quarter of the DVD-R was written on the bottom.
Maybe it's because i don't have anything in the AUDIO_TS folder? Is this program not like Nero, where it takes care of both the audio and the video when you load your files into the root of the VIDEO_TS folder?
Im starting to think that there's something in the settings that im not seeing. I checked to make sure it was on track at once and UDF with joilet.
I really don't know what else could be done. -
I didn't make any changes to the basic PrimoDVD setup. There is one setting about the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS compliance I think. I have it checked. You don't have to put any files in the AUDIO_TS directory.
Also, I managed to get my A04 to work in UDMA mode. I'm not exactly sure what fixed it, as I made 2 changes to my system. I loaded the RecordNow Max demo to try that, and then I loaded Windows XP Service Pack 1 (just released on 9/9). I am pretty sure that SP1 fixed the problem -
you selected "test" - which in itself should take an ungodly amount of time -- but did it do the test first? you seem to indicate that it started (attempted to) burning right away .. so i wonder if your installation of primo is bad or something .. maybe re-install it ..
anyway for disk to disk copy -- just use disk copy as its a lot easier .. -
Yea...Maybe it's just the software. It sucks though because i had downloaded it from someone. My Pioneer DVR-104 didn't come with this software, so this was my only option.(besides maybe buying it)
Im gonna try uninstalling it and re-installing it, but i doubt it's going to work.If someone has the means of sending a different copy to me, i would appreciate it. I would be willing to trade whatever else i might have for it.
Im also gonna try installing that service pack and see if it fixes the little issue with UDMA. Im glad to hear it worked for you though EnemyWithin. -
Awww nobody has a heart?
I also wanted to ask if Nero could be causing a conflict? Both programs load up fine and recognize both my writers, but could this be the problem? -
i have nero , cdrwin and prassi PrimoDVD all installed together - though my dvd burner (pioneer 104) is on a firewire and the cd burner (plextor) is on scsi, so not quite the same but shouldnt cause any problems in your case ..

Oh wow! My new favorite burning program is....RecordNow MAX! :P
This program is like PrimoDVD on steroids.
If someone wants this*cough whole cough* program, then PM me and i'll lead you in the "right direction."
Props to EnemyWithin, for mentioning this prog.
Nero will be taking the backseat for a while now. Later-M -
RecordNow MAX IS PrimoDVD
Prassi sold it to Veritas who sold it to Stomp who upgraded it to the current version of RecordNow MAX (or somthing like that!).
-
Either way, this program is the sh!t.
I just copied the damn movie i've been trying to copy with PrimoDVD, with no problem whatsoever! I don't know, i mean they look about the same, but not for nothing... PrimoDVD looked like a toy program to me. I guess im glad that Stomp got a hold of it, cause they made it more professional looking. 8)
P.S. The service pack 1 from Microsoft didn't fix my UDMA issue with my driver. I tried burning on a DVD-RW and got a "connection failed" in Nero while using UDMA. So im still in PIO mode.
I will probably call Pioneer later and check out the situation with that. -
I didn't test in Nero, but it works in PrimoDVD. Did you try UDMA mode in RecordNow MAX?

Enemy Within,
I was just looking at your screen shot above, and noticed that your AUDIO_TS directory is RED, and I am assuming that the VIDEO_TS directory is also RED
Doesn't this mean that there is an error with the VIDEO & AUDIO folders ?
When I try to burn my DVD using RecordNow Max, it gives an error due to "VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS errors".
Under the menu item Tools/options/data tab, you can either select or deselect the "Recognize VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders for DVD specifications"
If I deselect it, I can burn the DVD. It will play in my Xbox, but it won't play on my set top player, but if I have it selected, I can't burn the disc at all.
I have tried to find out more about the "Recognize VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders for DVD specifications" item, but can't find anything. All it says in the help file is that it assists in making a DVD more compatible.
I have also made sure that all my files in the VIDEO_TS directory are correct, all ifos are correct etc. I have checked all my media etc.
Anyone with any ideas ?
Thanks,
Jimmbo. -
I have that option checked and it burns them without any issues. Make sure that ALL the files and folders are capitalized.

Also, do you have to capitalize all the files within the VIDEO_TS directory ?
ie, all the VTS_, IFO's, etc ?
mmmm.....
Thanks for the quick reply. -

In primo dvd, under multisession, select new volume.
I've burned over 50 DVD's and not had a problem
