Downloaded an mpg file from the net (film), and both parts
will NOT play in anything i try. The 'sample' file is fine,
but not the 2 major parts. It will NOT open or play in any of
    these programs..

Windows Media Player (cant open, the format is not supported)
    Real Player
    Quicktime player
Virtual DUb (cannot determin file type)
Tmpgenc (can not open or un-supported)
Canopus Procoder (either format is not suported, or file damaged)

Nero 5.9 (following problems were found: stream encoding, which
is invalid for [super]video cd, and no video or audio files)

Xing mpeg encoder (file is in use by other progam?)

I've tried to fix it with MPEG CORRECTER, but still doesnt work.

Anyone have an helpful hints or tips?

    thanks,

    Win

Yup, installed. Dont think it's a codec issue at all. Especially since
the SAMPLE file plays just fine.

    thanks

If that does not work try to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.

Nope, no change. I'm think the problem is with this mpeg file,
since nothing on my machine can play it. Very odd, never had this
happen. The file wont load in ANY program.

  7. maybe a muxing problem? Try demuxing, playing the individual streams, then remuxing, see if that helps...

OK, after trying to fix the mpeg with VCD gear, the resulting
files are HALF the size as the original. And they now play with
horrible audio distortion and crazy green pixellation.

Looks like some weird special efx..u cant see anything, but the
file does try to play in the windows media player.

    I'm lost here.

for the record, this is a copy of DOG SOLDIERS Limited Screener
