I've got a camcorder w/ firewire card and I capture with adobe premiere 6. i only use adobe for the capture (rest is a little too confusing for me, although it looks like fun). I use the default 720 x 480 resolution, then convert the AVI to MPEG1 using TMPGEnc (the VCD template, just like the 'how to' on this site. The way things are going right now, I can fit an hour onto my 650MB cd. I like the length, but I'd like to sacrifice length for some higher quality. (im thinking 40-45mins or so) how do I do this? XVCD?

that or make an svcd (or variant of), tmpgenc has templates for them as well and you can "tinker" more with svcd as its standard isn't quite as rigid. (that is if your player can handle them as well)

nope, my sony dvd player is VERY picky when it comes to VCDS. only plays CDR's made by digital media, and no SVCDS. XVCDS are my only option i guess?

sounds like it....you could also try a vbr mpeg1 at 1150 avg and 2500 max or something to try and keep your play time up and still bump up the quality otherwise it is just cbr and bump up the bitrate a little.
