I'm converting 29.97 NTSC VHS tapes to DVD format 352x480. I was reading something about drop frame vs. non-drop frame when the actual authoring of the program is performed. It sounds like drop frame is needed when converting NTSC->DVD. I've done some other NTSC->DVD using the non-drop frame setting and I haven't noticed any sync issues. I was wondering what the actual standard should be when dealing with NTSC conversions to DVD?
Thanks.

ntsc can be 29.97 DF or 29.97 NDF or 30 NDF or 30 DF or even a different frame rate .... a lot of this is saying the same thing different ways ..
vhs is 29.97 DF and so is DVD
there is a long story why the frame rate is 29.97 and why all this drop frame crap is nessessary ... and it boils down to some dumb descisions done when color came to North america TV (kinda like the HDTV decisions going on still) -
I'm capturing at 720x480 with a framerate of 29.97fps. So, when I go to author my mpeg2 29.97fps stream (for a dvd), I should make the video DF to make it standard? I've read the difference between DF and NDF but if I make a dvd either one or the other, I don't see any difference in the playing of the dvd.
Thanks for the help.
