Playing Divx on a DVD Player

I'm thinking of buying a new DVD Player for my TV (at the moment I don't have any). This player can play VCD, CD-R and CD-RW. I have some Divx movies that I can see on my computer, but I guess I won't be able too see them on the DVD-Player. Should I do any conversions?

you'll have to convert it either to VCD, SVCD or CVD or whatever, but DivX won't play in a standalone DvD player
