I do not know about you, but I can't wait to get this.

    From http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1103-957191.html

"The external DRX-500UL drive will be available in November for $429, while the internal DRU-500A drive will be available in October for $349. The external drive will come with USB and FireWire ports."

Specs and Pictures can be found here:

  2. Hi and thanks for the info. I was just about to buy the cheap sony +R(W). Although I wanted the A04 for compability.

But I think now I'll wait so I'll be covered in all area's Xbox PS2 and video.

  3. What format is Xbox? DVD-R or DVD+R?

    What format is PSX2? DVD-R or DVD+R?

Can either of these work with the DVD-R format?

  4. They can work with either +R or -R formats as far as I know. For DVD+R, you may want to look at www.dvdplusrw.org for more info on this.

In my opinion, a +R and -R combo drive is useless since either format is sufficient for DVD or video games (unless it is sold for the same price).

Yeah, it's sort of like buying a motherboard that runs both Intel and AMD chips, but not both at the same time. It's gonna cost more most likely, and doesn't really help you much to run Excel since both will work fine.

I find this drive quite interesting. True, either one will work, but I believe that only one will survive the long haul. In which case, this drive will let you buy now and then reap the benefits of the winning format (whichever it may be), namely cheap discs.

  7. Howdy,

From what I've read there are different revisions of the playstation 2. Some are more compatable with the -r and the later ps2's work better with +r media I think if I remember right. Xbox likes both.

    yg1968,

Thanks for the link. I just put myself on the waiting list. It is backordered but not sure for how long. I would imagine that it is backordered due to not being shipped yet. But in any case, I have it ordered and can't wait! I will not have to worry about format changes for a while. =)
