  1. Okay, before you flame, I have searched the forums for info on the question I'm about to ask and have yet to have found a solution. I am posting as a last resort. Here it is:
I am trying to encode a particulary long movie, 3hrs to be exact, and fit it onto 2 80 min. cd's. So I make a non-standard vcd and lower the bit-rate and audio until it's small enough. No problem. after I split the finished mpeg, I get 2 mpeg files, one 733mb and one 766. I of course know from what I've read and my personal experiences, that this is fine and will fit on an 80 min disc. Nero tells me I have to turn off standard compliance and i do it but unfortunately, nero refuses to believe that the file will fit. does this have something to do with it being non-standard. Usually, I just burn standard and it fits fine but in this case my non compliant vcd loses that 100mb of leeway. Anyone who could possibly offer insight? I appreciate any time and help from the wiser.

    Which encoder you're using?

In order to get Nero to burn a non-compliant VCD, the mpeg file should have its header to state "MPEG1(Non-Standard VCD)".

In TMPGEnc usually you just have to set the file to "MPEG1(Non-Standard VCD)" and not "MPEG1 System".

If you don't remember how you encoded the file, just go to File/MPEG Tools and use Merge/Split and just change the header to Non-standard and to a new filename.
