  1. I've making a AC3 soundtrack for our amature film project.

I've combined all 5 channels (left, center, right, Lsurround, Rsurround) into a singel mono file, and then added a 8th order filter with a cutoff at 120hz in Cool Edit.

This file will serve as the LFE source..

i've tried both the encoder that comes with scenarist and Soft Encode from sonic...

I instered all the 6 channels and then enabled LFE in the options. After i've encoded the AC3 the LFE is mute, if you open it on soft encode the channel is their, but its silent...

What's wrong? What programs do you use to make LFE's What settings?

  2. Did you use softencode's LFE cutoff filter? (If not, use the LFE cutoff and see how it cuts down on the sound levels in the channel - because it's filtering out all the normal and high frequencies). It may be that there is so little information left in the LFE that it doesn't register. Also it may be that your HT receiver handles LFE separately with an 80Hz cutoff, and you just don't have than much low frequency stuff in the LFE channel. I think LFE is used for effects like blasts, jet roar, rumbles, and other low low frequency stuff.

Let us know what you learn. I've played with softencode, and have decided that for burninghome videos 3/0 is sufficient. I found the surround in 3/2 just distracting. And, like I said, the videos don't have low frequencies to justify and LFE channel.

  3. The sound for the film is recorded with a DAT recorder, so the sound is good, and i added alot of effects to the movie, like when persons get kicked, and hit, and we got alot of magic effects, so it would be cool to get a litle low base out of it

i will try the cut off in soft encode, does that mean that you dont need to filter the LFE by your own?

  4. if i unchecled the lowpassfilter it worked.. It was checked by default, i've filtered the LFE wav file my self in cool edit, so it was filterd again in soft encode and it caused the problem
