I'm coverting From Avi. to Mpeg, heres what i do.
1. Open Virtual Dub, click on Video and click on Data Stream
2. Open the file(e.g, MIB2.avi)
3. SaveAs something else, e.g. 1.avi. I do this to capture the file.
4. Open Tmpeg and blah blah blah, like u usually do in Tmpeg
My question is do i have to do step 1 to 3, if i don't and i try to open Tmpeg and open the file i get a message that says Unsupported file, or something like that.
By doing step 1 to 3 i'm i taking away the quality of the file, pls help??

Don't know what you are doing in steps 1 to 3, is that necessary at all ? unless your saving out the audio for use later or scanning for junk frames ??
1. Load MIB2.avi
2, Video > Scan video stream for errors
3, none found, then go to TMPGEnc and convert !!
3b, bad frames found
Video > direct stream copy
audio > direct stream copy
SAVE AVI
MIB2-2.AVI
Use this with TMPGEnc
TMPGEnc, load VCD template click start, stop after few minuets and test output, look for lip sync
If no problems click start to convert whole lot.
If lip sync, go back to Vdub
Vdub
Audio > Full processing mode
Audio > conversion > 44.1Khz
SAVE WAV
Use this WAV with TMPGEnc along with original AVI
If AVI wont load into TMPGEnc, you may have a codec problem, or a direct Show priority setting wrong
Select options > environmental settings
click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4
