  1. Is there anyway to rip a dvd if you only have a cdrom?

  2. You can't read a DVD in a CD-ROM drive. DVD requires a laser at a different wavelength; the disc has a different physical format; the disc has a different logical format. A firmware update is not going to make this work, so don't expect that installing new software is going to help.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

    Yes...

First you need to take out your CDROM and strip it down for modification. Then you need to get hold of a DVD player for a PC and strip that down also.

Next put the stuff that's inside the DVD rom into your CDROM case (get rid of the rest the rest)

Put it all back together, and switch on... You will now find that your CDROM (case) will read DVD's

Next method requires no modification at all...

Get someone to rip a small VOB file from a DVD without removing the protection, then ask them to put this on a CDR but important to label the disk as "DVD"

Now put this disk into your CDROM and click on explorer and view disk, you will see the disk is now called "DVD" and you can use smart ripper to rip the DVD VOB file to your hard drive...

    In other words NO

  4. So it is possible to rip a DVD in a Cdrom. Well , I was wondering the method i would use to play a DVD in my VCR. I really don't want to waste the Money on a Dvd player when I've got this perfectly fine 10-year old Vcr setting here. Is there any adapters or maybe a Firmware upgrade for my VCR? Thank ahead for any help.

What's so funny... Don't you just hate it when someone takes the Mickey out of a question, just because they don't have the answer .

KingJohn's easy VHS to DVD Guide...

As you know the tape runs passed the video heads and so picks up the signal, the tape runs from left to right and is quite long. However imaging a DVD just being tape all rolled up, now all you need to do is spin the DVD against the heads and it will play just fine.

Electric drill, yep this is one of the most frequently used methods, especially as most electric drills come with a "Speed control" once you have found the optimum speed setting you will no longer need to adjust this, (Unless you use the drill for drilling holes)

Get hold of a bold that will fit the center of a DVD, then a nut to tighten it in place, place the end of the bolt into the drills chuck and tighten.

Now start up the drill and carefully hold the spinning disk against your VHS heads, Note at first there may be sound sync problems (See guides) adjust the speed of the drill until the movie is displayed correctly

    Some comparisons

Drill at full speed 20000, fps (fast forward)
150 rpm, around 29 fps (NTSC)
140 rpm, around 25 fps (PAL)

    50 rpm, slow motion playback

If the playback is a bit jerky, make sure you have the "hammer action" switched off

    Hope this helps ?
