  1. anyone here uses LG's CDRWs?

    I just bought a LG cdrw GCE-8320B..
    but when i installed into my system..

    the system info reads "HL-DT-ST GCE-8320B"

    Are they the same? or I am being ripped off?

    LG = HL-DT-ST

    I have HL-DT-ST GCE 8481B (48x/24x/48x CD-RW) came with my new Dell and like you I'm trying to figure out who on this green earch makes this.

    The only way I found out HL-DT-ST is related to LG Electronics is through a product support site www.cd-mate.com/cdr.php -- it mentions HL-DT-ST and cross-references it to LG/Goldstar. LG's site mentions Goldstar but not HL-DT-ST. My guess is that the latter is a low-end subsidiary of LG.

    It came with Roxio 5.0 software but I have found out that Nero 5.5 will support it (you have to look it up via LG/Goldstar listing) as well as Ulead and Virtuoso). Can't find any info regarding VCDEasy's support of it.

    Hope this helps

  4. Thats just how the LG's are labelled. Weird eh? They are decent recorders, that do well with stuff like Clone CD. Here is a review of the 8320B:

    Has anyone tried any of these LG/HL-DT-ST models burning with Nero? I found some reference to compatibility, but no hard evidence....

    Both of my systems are equipped with LG CD-R(W) burners, and Nero doesn't seem to have any trouble working with either one... (One of them -- a 12x8x32 model I bought about 18 months ago -- identifies itself as LG CD-RW CED-8120B, while the six-month-old 16x10x40 model identifies as HL-DT-ST CD-RW CED-8160B.) I've burned literally dozens of CD-R's and CD-RW's in both units with Nero, including quite a few VideoCD's, and they all seem to work just fine...

  9. My drive works great with nero (it's the 8400), but I believe they basically all work...
