i tried to join an mpg4 avi, and it came in 5 different parts, each is a separate file that is to be viewed separatly, can i still join em? virtual dub says they're not from the same video clip so i can't join em.

Sure you can. Install AviSynth and turn it on in the registry,
Copy the following text to WordPad or NotePad. Change the path, filenames, and resolutions, repeat the command as many times as needed where applicable:
AVISource("c:\video1.00.avi").BicubicResize(320,24 0)
+AVISource("c:\video2.00.avi").BicubicResize(320,2 40)
Save the file as a .avs file, and save.
Load it into VDub (using all files) and run.Hello.
