  1. hi

i have my avermedia tv card hooked up to my VCR using the composite input and on my line in on my soundcard. I receive picture and sound fine. When i try and capture in both Vitualdub and iuVCR the TV signal coming out of the VCR (using CD Quality sound, MJPEG compression, 352x288 size, PAL) i am able to capture at the full 25 fps.. with absolutley no dropped frames and the final result is really nice.

HOWEVER, whenever i play a VHS tape and attempt to capture that (using exactly the same settings) i am dropping frames all over the place (like 5 or 6 frmaes each second).. so what is teh difference?? surely its just a signal that's being received by the input on the card.. so why is dropping so many frames?? it has got to be something simple and probably just a simple setting somewhere..

..so anybody got any ideas?? thanks!

  2. I've noticed that I drop a lot more frames when I cap from my 8mm camcorder than when I cap from my sat tv box. As a matter of fact, I dropped 20 out of about 300000 frames from sat tv. And when I capped from my camcorder, I dropped 409 of 227298. How beat up is your VHS tape?

  3. the tape itself has only ever been recorded onto once.. but the actual content on the tape is probably 3rd or 4th generation and is average in terms of watchability.. would this affect the capture???

  4. I'd cap from another source and see what it does.

  6. Try another tape too. I've kept a log of almost everything I capped. Cap resolution, sound, compression, etc... so I know pretty much what to expect when I cap.
