  1. I am try to convert a couple of dat. files into avi files, mainly because the avi is compressed and takes up much less room. I used vcdgear to convert them to mpg files but i can't seem to get beyond that point. exstream changed it to an avi file larger than the origional dat. file, and Flaskmpeg and virtual dub keep giving me error messages. i can't even open the mpg file with virtual dub. please help

.dat files will load straight into Vdub and TMPGEnc without the need to convert them.

If Vdub has a problem, use TMPGEnc Browse (*.*) > .dat
Then use File > output to file > AVI > Codec etc

When you want TMPGEnc to convert to AVI, Select File-->Output to File...-->AVI file.
    Hello.

Yes, select File > Output to file > AVI > Video > Setting >

Chose a Video codec to match the source, or use DivX low motion, with a bitrate of 400.

Also chose a codec for audio > MP3

If you miss any of this out
, you will have uncompressed audio and video

If you cannot select MP3 for the output, you need to install a Codec pack. Nimo lite from http://nimo.everwicked.com/

Or search Kazaa for the KJ Codec pack
