  1. Im trying to capture MPEG2 @720x480 for DVD. Im using the ATI software MMC 7.7. I have got all the bugs worked out and can capture with great results. I have the bit rate set to 9.6. The problem Im having is when I import the video into SprucUp, it will only let me fit about 1:15 on a disk. Is this because the bit rate is to high? If I lower it, will I lose picture quality that is noticable? What is an acceptable rate to put it at to get good quality video. The blank discs say they are 120 minute video, but what bit rate do I need to acheave this? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks Boxingjunkie

  2. professionally made dvds are usually around 4.5mbps at 8mbps you'd be at the max bitrate alot of players can do without too much trouble. if you are capturing from vhs or such 4.5 should be great.

    hope that helps

  3. I just got the defeat macrovision patch for my ati all-in-wonder 8500dv. Yesterday I set it up to capture the sopranos dvd at full dvd resolution and vbr (6 mbit max). after the first episode I checked the fie size of the capture and it seemed abnormally small (like 800 megs for 50+ minutes) I played the mpg and it looked awsome. I then loaded the mpg in power dvd and turned on the information option and was shocked to see the it hover around 2-3 mbit. I'm guessing that because the signal from my standaone dvd player is so clean the ati is able to capture at a very low rate and still deliver a great picture. I have to be honest, since I installed the patch and seen the result of a capture off dvd, I can't see not doing it this way all the time, instead of messing with ripping and ifoedit and tmpg and the rest. Just capture to mpg, throw the file into dvd workshop and make your dvd. You do give up the subtitles and ac3 sound but thats not that big a deal to me. I can even recreate the entire menu by capturing the various motion menus and using transparent frames around the active buttos on screen.
