  1. Hi, I have successfully converted some AVI clips into VCD playable in my DVD player with the instructions here
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

However, the problem is, when I play the VCD on my DVD player on the TV, it looks correct. But when I later try to open the CD on Windows Media Player or WinDVD, the movie plays, but the aspect ratio isn't the same as it was before it was converted. For example, when I played the avi clip, and in WMP it was in fullscreen mode, it filled the whole screen, but after converting, it, it was about 1/3 the original size. Like there were borders on top, left, bottom and right, or sometimes just left and right, anyway it doesn't fit nicely onto the screen on the computer (although it does on the TV)

In tempenc, I chose the option "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)"

Should I choose one of the other ones? For example, just "Full Screen", "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio2)" (What is this one?) or No Margin, or any of the others?

If I do so, and it plays as the avi did with on the computer, will it work on the TV the same way?

  2. you can do some experiment with all the setting you just mentioned. Oh don't forget to try to change Aspect ration to 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 depends on original screen. Try only short clip (or show display while you encoding that way you can see the result right away)

  3. Ok thanks, but my remaining question is, it is possible to burn a VCD from and AVI file so that they work perfectly full screen BOTH on TV and on the computer? Or is it basically either or, because DVD players are different from computer media players.

And also, what do you mean "Original Screen"? Because I just have AVI that i play in WMP that the screen size can be adjusted to full screen or not. You can adjust it. So what is the "Original" that you mean?

  4. To answer your question
Yes after you convert avi file to mpeg1(VCD), then you can burn to VCD which can play on dvd player and computer (NOTE: still depends on your player complatible also, Pls check your player list Here http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php)

Original in my meaning is for aspect ration of your avi file. Is it full screen or wide screen? (you know a different right). Most of avi files don't have tob and bottom black bar (all show in full screen) but if it wider than normal then if wide screen.

  5. Yes I know what is full screen and wide screen, but that's not what I'm talking about. I mean the video doesn't fit the screen AT ALL. Like there are bars on top, bottom, left, right etc. on the computer, but fits perfectly on the TV.
